The first day of "boot camp" went well. Hu was able to get out of bed and to a wheelchair (with assistance) where he sat for about 45 minutes after doing several standing and sitting exercises. These exercises were done while holding on to a walker while a couple of nurses assisted him. The therapist seemed pleased with how well he did for his first day of "camp". He also had a swallow test and practiced talking with a device that they hook up to the tracheostomy. After a full morning, he spent much of the afternoon snoozing. Dad continues to write down lots of questions and comments for us and the nurses to read since he is otherwise unable to speak.
Thanks again for checking in and for your prayers for Hu's recovery! We tell him about each email, phone call, and comment to the blog and he is so appreciative of your support and prayers. Blessings to you!
(ad-ven-ture: the encountering of danger; an unusual, stirring experience)
Thanks so much for stopping by. My hope is that you will be encouraged and comforted by traveling with us on this adventure as you see how God can take the challenges of life to assure us of the living hope that is available by faith to us all through Jesus Christ.
Thanks, also, to each of you who have personally ministered to me and my family through your thoughts, prayers of faith, visits, messages, many acts of kindness and words of encouragement, especially during those dark days, and then for the long haul during my extended recovery season.

We are sooo thankful for the progress and know that Hu is just the kind of guy who will fight through this and regain his strength each step. It is so obvious that God's plan and timing is perfect and we thank Him for this progress. Our prayers continue for all of you.

ReplyDeleteSO grateful for your posts and for Hu's progress.
ReplyDeletePraying for Sherril and family. It is my experience that the patient is getting the best possible care. The caregiving spouse seldom realizes the depth of tiredness. I love the fact that God answers prayers.
