The fact that the caregiver needs tender loving care was something that hadn't occurred to me before Hu's hospitalization. It was a revelation to me for so many to ask specifically about how I was doing and offered opportunities of relief and relaxation for me. This week I was impacted by how blessed I have been to have had good health throughout this time. I'm normally pretty healthy but given the numerous hours spent in the hospital, irregular sleeping times and places and varied meal schedule, I know it is a direct result of the prayers of so many of you that my health has been sustained so I could provide the care that Hu has needed.
Today we were informed that home health has been extended for another month. Hu had a PT evaluation today which included marching in place. When he was initially tested by this therapist a month ago he was able to do 71 steps in 2 minutes. Today he was up to 95. The therapist also mentioned that for his length of hospitalization, which included a month of critical care, the rule of thumb is usually about a year for recovery. Since we are less that half way through the year, we were definitely encouraged by the progress that he has made. As is so often the case, the process is slower than we would choose, but the lessons along the way are invaluable.
Therefore, we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look
not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen;
for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are
not seen are eternal. 2 Cor 4:16 - 18
(ad-ven-ture: the encountering of danger; an unusual, stirring experience)
Thanks so much for stopping by. My hope is that you will be encouraged and comforted by traveling with us on this adventure as you see how God can take the challenges of life to assure us of the living hope that is available by faith to us all through Jesus Christ.
Thanks, also, to each of you who have personally ministered to me and my family through your thoughts, prayers of faith, visits, messages, many acts of kindness and words of encouragement, especially during those dark days, and then for the long haul during my extended recovery season.
